                                                   Abstract:

Algebraic K-theory is a basic invariant of ring spectra. Fundamental properties of the rational homotopy groups of algebraic K-theory have been understood since Waldhausen. From the chromatic point of view, the rational homotopy groups are just the height-0 case of the more general concept of v_n-periodic homotopy groups. In joint work with Land, Mathew and Tamme we could recently show analogues of Waldhausen’s results for these v_n-periodic homotopy groups. In this talk I will give an introduction to these results and how the interplay between stable and unstable v_n-periodic homotopy groups is a crucial ingredient
