A chain of normalizers in the symmetric group on $2^n$ symbols is constructed and characterized via the “rigid commutators machinery”, a recently developed combinatorial technique. This purely group-theoretical analysis is motivated by the study of the location of the abelian regular subgroups in $Sym(2^n)$. This study, in turn, has some importance in differential cryptanalysis.
