Abstract: This talk will give a basic introduction to Guirardel Core. We will look at the motivation and the construction of Guirardel core. In 2005 Guirardel generalized the concept of intersection number of curves on surfaces to the setting of G–trees: given two G–trees T, T?, Guirardel constructed a core C(T × T?) ? T × T? that is a CAT(0) 2-complex. The talk will then focus on the result of Berhstock, Bestvina and Clay about the asymptotic behavior of the Guirardel intersection number and its proof.
