Colloquium: Tuesday, March 14, 2 pm. Speaker: Yael Karshon (Toronto). Title: “Classification results in equivariant symplectic geometry”.
Equivariant symplectic geometry is a meeting point for many areas of
mathematics: it models symmetries of phase space in classical mechanics,
extends algebraic-geometric phenomena, provides a geometric context for
representations of Lie groups, and connects with geometry of convex polytopes.
I will report on some old and new classification results in equivariant
symplectic geometry, in particular on my classification, joint with Sue
Tolman, of Hamiltonian torus actions with two dimensional quotients.
