U. Haifa Topology & Geometry seminar: Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Speaker: David Blanc (Haifa). Title: “Chain complexes and spectral sequences”.

The naive notion of a chain complex makes sense in any pointed category, but its homotopical version is a little more complicated. We define a notion of a tight chain complex in a pointed model or ∞-category M, and describe the obstructions to obtain one from a naive chain complex in Ho M. We then explain how this theory can be used to explain the notion of the spectral sequence associated to any sequence of maps in M with respect to a “test object” A ∈ M. Joint work with Mark Johnson and Jim Turner.
