U. Haifa Topology & Geometry seminar: Wednesday, Apr. 9, 2025. Speaker: Petar Pavesic (Ljubljana). Title: “On the size of minimal triangulations”.

Many topological spaces including smooth manifolds and algebraic varieties can be triangulated, but the explicit triangulations are often unknown or too big to be of practical interest. We will take a look at this problem from the viewpoint of algebraic topology and use cohomology and the fundamental group to obtain lower bounds for the number of vertices that are necessary to triangulate some classes of spaces.
