Title: Some new Qualitative and Quantitative results in Harmonic analysis on Spherical spaces
Abstract: I will introduce Spherical spaces, these are generalizations of symmetric spaces, and survey some recent developments on invariant Harmonic analysis on these. In particular we shall discuss the role of representation theory in understanding analysis on these spaces. With this background, we shall be able to formulate a version of the Plancherel theorem in the general context of Spherical spaces.
I will also discuss some more qualitative approach to the Plancherel decomposition that leads to a new microlocal criterion concerning distinguished representations, those representations that contribute to the Plancherel decomposition. If time permits, I will explain the potential applications of such results in the theory of automorphic forms.
The lecture is based on my recent work with Job Kuit (University of Paderborn) and on my work with Dmitry Gourevitch (Weizmann institute).
