Title: &#8220;A spectral perspective on Gaussian stationary processes&#8221;."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next colloquium for this semester will be held <strong>ONLINE<\/strong> on <strong>7.12.2021<\/strong> at <strong>14:00<\/strong> (<strong>Tuesday<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Zoom link: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/us02web.zoom.us\/j\/82797905845?pwd=VUxHdkwyRzZIOHdDWkF2OC92U0p6UT09\">https:\/\/us02web.zoom.us\/j\/82797905845?pwd=VUxHdkwyRzZIOHdDWkF2OC92U0p6UT09<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaker: Naomi Feldheim (Bar-Ilan University)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Date: <strong>Tuesday, December 7, 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Time: <strong>14:00<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Title: A spectral perspective on Gaussian stationary processes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abstract: Consider a real Gaussian stationary process, either on Z or on R<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(that is, a stochastic process, invariant under translations, whose finite marginals are centered multi-variate Gaussians).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What is the probability that it remains positive on [0,N] for large N?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This question, and other similar ones, were largely open for at least 50 years, and in spite of numerous motivations,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">only rough bounds and few particular examples were known.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In several recent works substantial progress has been made, mainly due to a &#8220;spectral perspective&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and the employment of tools from real and harmonic analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the talk I will describe this spectral point of view and how it is used to analyse<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the qualitative behavior of such rare events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based on joint works with several co-authors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No knowledge of Gaussian processes will be assumed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The next colloquium for this semester will be held ONLINE on 7.12.2021 at 14:00 (Tuesday).
