Please email Yuval Ginosar \u201cginosar at math dot haifa dot ac dot il\u201d for the Zoom ID and password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"block-89317a3d-c8f0-40a9-87ab-35fd9ef60741\"><strong>Date:<\/strong> Tuesday, June 8, 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"block-066dd0bd-75d8-47ee-90e9-b0a8e3d6a345\"><strong>Time:<\/strong> 14:00<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Abstract:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I will discuss a number of results which, though to my knowledge not mutually related in any direct manner, nevertheless have a recognizably common flavor: &#8220;most&#8221; objects of such-and-such a type have &#8220;few&#8221; symmetries. Examples abound; the objects in question might be<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; finite graphs, where &#8220;most&#8221; is interpreted probabilistically and asymptotically as the graphs grow;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; quantum graphs (i.e. appropriately well-behaved subspaces of matrix algebras), where &#8220;most&#8221; means &#8220;along a Zariski-dense subset&#8221;;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; measured metric spaces, with &#8220;most&#8221; = &#8220;over a residual set in the measured Gromov-Hausdorff topology&#8221;;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; Riemannian manifolds, &#8220;most&#8221; meaning &#8220;over an open dense set in the smooth topology&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Few symmetries&#8221; is also subject to rich interpretation: it might mean a trivial automorphism group, or a quantum-group version thereof, or that the automorphism group can be prescribed beforehand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(partly joint w\/ Mateusz Wasilewski)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Speaker: Alexandru Chirvasitu (University of Buffalo) Topic: Generic rigidity patterns Place: This is an online seminar.
